Alternative cab service Uber and the family of the 6-year-old girl who died in a 2013 accident in San Francisco involving an Uber driver have reached a settlement in the lawsuit that resulted from the accident.

Documents filed yesterday with the San Francisco County Superior Court show that both parties in the lawsuit have sought to keep details of the settlement — such as how much money the family is receiving — confidential under seal. (Hat tip to Reuters for reporting on the settlement earlier today.)

The parties involved “all seek to maintain that level of confidentiality, in part, for the protection of Anthony Liu, the minor child plaintiff,” lawyers representing the Liu family wrote in one filing.

This is one of many lawsuits Uber has faced as it expands globally and takes on large rounds of funding.

The suit stems from an accident that took place at around 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve of 2013 in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Uber partner Syed Muzaffar struck 6-year-old Sofia Liu, as well as Sofia’s brother and sister,

Ang Jiang Liu subsequently filed a suit on charges of wrongful death, negligence involving a motor vehicle, and negligent hiring, retention and supervision, among charges.

“The Liu’s suffered a terrible tragedy — and our hearts go out to them,” an Uber spokeswoman wrote in an email to VentureBeat. “While we cannot ease their pain, we do hope that this settlement helps the family move forward.”
